If your heart is set on tasting some local cuisine, grab a plate of our beer battered fish & chips, a sockeye salmon fillet sandwich, or a pile of Alaskan king crab legs. Dip them in warm drawn butter because you can. Our Alaskan king crab is sustainably sourced in the Bering Sea by those brawny bearded men you see on TV. You’re going to taste the difference.
Mouth-watering smoked meats with all the fixin’s
There is an art to perfecting barbecue smoked meats. The best meal of your life starts with our dry rub, which is made with a secret assortment of herbs and spices. It takes hours in the smoker for our meats to reach succulent goodness. Grab your plate and head over to our sauce bar and slather as much of that stuff on your meat as you like.

- Spare Ribs – Get a half rack or a full rack of top quality spare ribs. We suggest a full rack to avoid buyer’s remorse.
- Chicken – Order a quarter of white or dark meat or just get it over with and buy a half chicken. This stuff melts in your mouth and can be ordered as a sandwich.
- Pulled Pork – Step up to the counter and grab quarter, half, or full pound. Or you can order a pulled pork sandwich. Either way, you won’t go wrong.
- Beef Brisket – Fatty slices of ridiculously delicious brisket will make all of your wildest dreams come true. Order a quarter, half, or full pound. Make sure you have enough so you don’t have to share.
Order your smoked meat at the walk-up counter and step up to the sauce bar for our selection of mouth-watering barbecue sauces made with our microbrewed beer. Grab some sliced onion, sweet pickle chips, and a slice of white bread because that’s how it’s done. Eat. Enjoy life.
Grab some fixin’s and fill your belly
You can’t call it a barbecue until you fill your plate with traditional homemade barbecue side dishes.
Every side prepared in our kitchen is made with care and full of flavor. Choose from the following:
- Collard Greens – Southern style. Slow cooked in chicken stock with a ham hock for a robust flavor that complements any smoked meat.
- Jojos – Order a mess of sweet potato or russet potato wedges. Live a little and try them loaded with chili, smoked cheddar cheese, and scallions.
- Smoked potato salad – You can’t have a barbecue picnic without potato salad. Grab some to go, hike out to Yakutania Point and eat by the ocean because you can.
- Baked Beans – There is nothing we can say about baked beans that you don’t already know. We didn’t try to reinvent the wheel. They’re baked beans and they go well with just about anything.
- Coleslaw – If you eat barbecue without Coleslaw, people are going to talk.
- Mixed Green Salad – Served with our house dressing.
- Smokehouse Chili Cup – This ridiculously good stuff is made with smoked cheddar and our microbrewed beer. Locals rave about our chili because they’re smart.
- Big Fat Pickle – Yep. That’s about it.
- Bag of Chips – Yes, you can order all that and a bag of chips.
Our famous beer battered halibut fish & chips
Every restaurant in Alaska says their fish & chips are famous. So do we. They’re not “Brad Pitt” famous but they’re pretty darn good. Our Alaskan halibut fish & chips are made with locally sourced halibut. The meat is white and flakey and considered the finest eating fish on the planet by people who understand superlatives. But man are they ugly.
Each piece of fresh halibut is dipped in our ale batter, which is made from our tasty microbrewed beer. Then we deep fry it until it’s golden brown. Your fingers are going to be greasy unless you eat your fish & chips with a fork. If you eat your fish & chips with a fork, we are going to judge you.
The chips in your Alaskan halibut fish & chips are Jojos, which are wedge-shaped sliced potatoes that you can’t stop eating. Order sweet or russet potato Jojos. Dip them in ketchup or barbecue sauce.
Alaskan king crab – the real deal!
You’re in Alaska, so you should seize the opportunity to eat authentic red king crab caught sustainably in the Bering Sea. Alaskan king crab is rich, succulent, and delicious. Much (if not all) of the king crab sold in the Lower 48 is sourced from Russia. Even in Alaska, Russian caught king crab dominates the marketplace. We take great pride in selling the real deal – Alaskan king crab caught by Alaskan fishermen in Alaskan waters. You will taste the difference.
The leg span of Alaskan king crab can grow to nearly 6 feet! They are the largest crab species and can weight up to 30 pounds. King crab species include red, blue, and golden. Red king crab is considered the best of them all and grows larger than the other two species.
Fun Alaskan king crab fact: Many people ask whether the body of the king crab is eaten. You may be surprised to learn that you are eating it. The portion of the leg called the knuckle is actually a section from the king crab’s body.
Another fun fact: Why does the king crab only have 8 legs instead of 10 like other crabs? The last pair of a king crab’s legs are quite small and tucked underneath their body, making it appear as though they only have 8 legs (2 of which being claws).

Whether you’re traveling to Skagway on a cruise, driving through on your RV, seasonal resident, or year-round local, The Smokehouse has something you’re going to love. Our spacious dining room and covered outdoor seating offer an incredible view of the Skagway Small Boat Harbor and the surrounding mountain peaks.
Skagway is famous for its rich Klondike Gold Rush history. In 1898, more than 100,000 gold seekers (also called Stampeders) came through Skagway in search of a fortune. Few would find it. Presumably, men and women during the Gold Rush also enjoyed smoked meats. They also ate plenty of halibut because it’s delicious.
Beer was also popular during the Gold Rush. Back then, scurvy was a legitimate threat because there weren’t many sources of vitamin C in the cold north. A very smart man decided to brew beer using spruce tips, which are the young bright green tips of new spruce tree growth that appears in the spring. We brew Spruce Tip Blonde Ale in our Skagway brewery because it tastes good. Fortunately, you don’t have to worry as much about scurvy nowadays, but it doesn’t hurt to drink a few spruce tip ales just to be sure.
